On the morning of September 26th, Jessica and Chris drove to Florence to celebrate their three-year anniversary. Climbing over the dunes on the south jetty beach, Jessica and Chris sat down and had the entire beach to themselves. From his backpack, Chris brought out a box of candles, a couple different kinds of fruit, candies, and a bottle of wine that he had imported from France. They sat on the beach eating their impromptu brunch.
Once they had cleaned up their snacks, Chris and Jessica decided to walk the beach looking for clamshells. After twenty minutes of walking the beach, Jessica was looking at a group of shells, Chris was looking around he found a whole cockleshell, he called Jessica over to take a look, since it was her favorite kind of shell. Chris knelt down and dug out the shell. Handing it to Jessica, he suggested that she opened it. While Jessica held the shell, Chris opened the shell for her.
Inside the shell, Jessica saw a white ribbon. Tied on the ribbon was an engagement ring. After a couple seconds of silence, Chris finally said, "Will you marry me?" Jessica, with her hand over her mouth was too surprised to say anything. Right then, a wave started to come in, Chris grabbed Jessica's hand and they moved up the beach. Chris got back down on his knee and told Jessica, "I'm not getting up again until you give me an answer, even if a wave comes."
Jessica said, "Yes."
